Moon Showers

Great, who caught whom, romance!
Book's blurb:
Sam had just returned from a Civil War re-enactment when he noticed suspicious movements in a mansion across the road. As caretaker of the historic property, he grabbed his rifle and stalked the cause. But inside the house, he began to have doubts. Could this be the thier---this vision with short brown hair and
shimmering eyes? It was like a scene out of a Civil War movie. Hilary Neill was crossing the hall of the antebellum mansion when a soldier dressed in Union blues dashed up the stairs---and aimed his rifle at her!

The Moses Legacy: The Evidence of History
Published in Hardcover by Sidgwick & Jackson (June, 2002)
Author: Graham Phillips
Average review score:

A Great Read
You must read Phillips' earlier book "Act of God" before you read this book. In the first book, Phillips explained how all the 'miracles' as experienced by Moses and the Hebrews (eg parting of the Sea of Reed) could be explained by the volcanic eruption of Thera.

In this book, Phillips traced the origin of Moses. Although his conclusions were slightly different from his earlier book, the whole theory seemed to be self consistent and did not actually contradict the first book.

In the search for the Mountain of God and the Hebrew God, Phillips came to a "frightening" conclusion that the burning bush as witnessed and interpreted by Moses to be God Himself was actually a hallucination resulting from eating the thorn apple. This is frightening because it seems to suggest that the entire western faith was based on the hallucination of one man three thousand five hundred years ago!

Anyway, one may not agree totally with Phillips' conclusions, one should at least praise him for his self-consistency and bold suggestions.

It is a good read - keep an extremely open mind!

A must
Quite coincidentally, I first opened this book on the Princeton campus. This happened about a year ago; I have finished the book three times since. If you like Princeton - read this book. If you like atomic bombs - read this book. If you like mushrooms - read this book. To sum up my review: This book is a must for any self-respecting human.

Mushrooms : and other fungi of Great Britain and Europe

One of, if not the best!!!
I have been a big mushroom entusiast for some time now and I have at least 14 different field guides to mushrooms, this book is my all time favourate. Everything you have ever wanted in a field guide, pictures pictures and more pictures. Every mushroom is photographed and represented clearly from all angles, even cross sections showing the flesh. Good descriptions for every one, maybe not the longest description but detailed enough. If more information is needed on a mushroom I look it up else where. The photos make identifying mushrooms a breeze. I would recommend this book to any one interested in Mushrooms, I for one could not do without it!!

Mushrooms of North America

Best mushroom guide ever for every skill level
I have been a mushroom enthusiast for years now, but when I was given this fine book for my birthday, my excitement was doubled. The endless, clear, complete photos give all phases of the fungi you could find in the wild, not just a single photo or drawing. The written information is complete and easy to read. The glossary is amazing. The photos are so lovely you'd be proud to have them hanging in your house! The only drawback is it's too large to take into the field, but I always have it waiting for fast and certain identification at the end of a day. This is a "can't do without it" book for the mushroom hunter. His book on European mushrooms is equally fine.

The Musician's Quest
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (October, 1984)
Authors: George MacDonald and Michael R. Phillips
Average review score:

This is a wonderful book.
The main character in this book is thought to be patterned after the Author himself. It's the story of a young man who was raised by his Grandmother. Her narrow Calvinist beliefs nearly drive him away from her. The pure love of God in his heart gives him patience and understanding for her, and endears him to others he meets as he grows into manhood. This book also provides a glimpse into Scottish life in the late 1800's.

My Brother's Keeper
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (April, 2002)
Author: Peggy Phillips

Absorbing and Evocative
Surely the definitive book about growing up in New York from the 1920's to the 1950's, this is far more than an absorbing salute to the City's indomitable spirit. Written with shrewd insight and enormous verve, Phillips' evocative, enthralling, often hilarious memoir, accomplishes the two goals of its particular genre, summoning up the general spirit of a colorful time and place while conveying a keen sense of individual uniqueness. With her brother, Arnold, as focus, the author creates a poignant and comic sense of life during a fascinating era. Once begun, I could not put the book down. From "Prelude" to "Postlude" it is a totally captivating read.

A 5yr.old is able to read;great&funny storyline;we love it!
Many books easy enough for my kindergartener are not interesting. There is no story line. They focus on the words being simple only. This has easy words, yet a great storyline of life from a dog's view point and it is cute and funny. We read it over and over. There needs to be more of these kinds. Real stories inspire reading.

Mysteries of the Pyramids (Mysteries of)

informative, detailed info on tombs & temples of 4 cultures
This book tells a lot about about mummifying and how the pyramid complex was arranged. It also shows various forms of writing by the various cultures. It had lots of information and very detailed pictures, so I can get a real picture of it in my mind even though I've never been to Giza or Peru or Mexico. My favorite page was the one about how the Egyptians mummify people, because I just like how they preserved bodies, because it was neat and clever and really worked. About the Aztec pyramids in the Americas, I liked the Tenochtitlan floating city/island, and the Chinampas which were floating gardens. The whole book was great! age 7.5
